Heléna & Matthew Cullis’ son was born in 2009 with a cleft in his soft palate. He has had his primary operation after which he developed a *fistula that consequently has healed on its own. They returned for a successful check up with their Plastic Surgeon and Speech Therapist in November 2010. Joel's next check up will be just before he turns three years old. Above is a photo with Heléna, Matthew & baby Joel.
Madge Blignaut was born with a unilateral cleft lip and cleft of the soft palate. The doctors at the time didn’t have much hope that her speech would be normal. She had an operation when she was three months old and then again as a teenager of 17. Madge found a chapter in the Bible that she felt God had written especially for her; Psalm 139. It changed her life forever to know that she is fearfully and wonderfully made!"For You did form my inward parts; You did knit me together in my mother's womb. I will confess and praise You for You are fearful and wonderful and for the aweful wonder of my birth! Wonderful are Your works, and that my inner self knows right well. My frame was not hidden from You when I was being formed in secret [and] intricately and curiously wrought [as if embroided with various colours] in the depths of the earth [a region of darkness and mystery]. Your eyes saw my unformed substance, and in Your book all the days [of my life] were written before ever they took shape, when as yet there was none of them." Psalm 139 vs 13-16 Amplified Bible* Fistula - An abnormal tunnel or tract that connects one surface in the body to another. This is a tiny hole that developed in the top of Joel's palate after his primary operation. Sometimes they heal on their own and other times another operation is needed to close them. |
